Urban Trigger Agency (UTA) is an offshoot of the Urban Trigger Group (UTG), an education and research group specialized on project driven, sustainable, value-chain based urban development. UTG is part of Centre for Real Estate and Facilities Management at the Faculty of Architecture and Design, at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). It is also associated with related studies at T.U. Delft in the Netherlands, and UCL in London. UTA is the market oriented, business end of the Urban Trigger activities.
Welcome
to Urban Trigger Agency
The Urban Trigger Group worked at NTNU for more than 15 years with education, education-based research, and innovation, developing methods for how to trigger projects that can drive the synergy of ecological-, social-, and economic sustainability. Urban Trigger Agency turns this competence into practical agency in urban development.
The first years of field work were done in post war Beirut during the 1990's, a city in high intensity transition between urban warfare and project-based reconstruction. We are currently not at war, but the concurrent climate crises, political tensions, and pandemic are charging our built environments with many of the same urgencies and drivers of change. Large political processes and structural changes in national and global economy, not to mention technology, are challenging status quo and powering deep changes. Changes that will have very concrete consequences, but also produce huge open spaces of possibilities on local level.
The Urban Trigger thinking synthetizes classical knowledge architecture and competence, in a broad sense. Over the last 25 years this thinking has been developed through teaching and research on urbanism and cognition. We have developed competence in cognitive science, information theory, urban development, visualization, system design, amongst other related fields. All of it with a focus on the human, living, spatial environment.

How we work
How we work
System. Cognition. Value.
Collect, organize, and visualize data on human, financial and natural based resources in a region or municipality.
First principles first: Let data lead the way
Analyze the maps focusing value-chains, key resource systems, and driving forces.
Analyze the dynamics: Uncover system flow
Target active actors, businesses and organizational operations, and uncover balances on resource use with respect to connected systems at play.
Focus the actors: Understand risk and opportunity
Map driving forces of change, and the potential trigger points. Analyze connections between discoveries and focus on operations and interconnections. Through utilization of urban triggers we design new value systems and/or value chains. Developing generative models for new business, focusing change that lead to increased and sustainable value creation.
Build the future
Triggering Sustainable
Urban Value
Our cities are complex systems. We provide actionable insight and strategy into sustainable value-based urban change.
1) Collect, Organize & Visualize
Upon private or public request, our work begins with the construction of an immersive data landscape for investigation and research. Human-, financial- and natural based resources are mapped, structured, and visualized.
2) Analyze,
Identify &
Map
Key actors, resources and value-chains provide insights into driving forces of urban change. Local and international business, resource flows and driving forces are mapped with respect to opportunities and risk.
3) Develop,
Optimize &
Trigger
New value-chains are connected to operations and interconnections between urban resources and actors. Synergy between resource use, client and system is optimized. Trigger is activated along with its generative model for sustainable value creation.
